Let’s talk about twisted straps. It seems small, right? When it comes to your child’s car seat, that small detail matters in a big way.

When harness straps are twisted or folded, they can’t lay flat against your child’s body the way they’re designed to. That means they can’t properly distribute force in a crash. Even one small twist can reduce how safely the seat protects your child.

We see straps folded and buckles flipped the wrong way all the time during cleans. It happens easily with everyday use… it’s an easy fix and part of every single clean we do. Each strap and buckle gets checked, straightened, and reset so it’s exactly how the manufacturer intended.

Soaking everything in hot water might seem like a good idea (especially when they look like this one did), but here’s the truth: soaking harness straps, chest clips, and the crotch buckles can weaken them and impact how they perform in a crash. The same goes for cleaning sprays or scrubbing too hard.

This hand-me-down car seat needed a really good clean, including the straps and buckles. We cleaned it safely with just a damp microfiber cloth, warm water, and a ton of patience. No sprays. No soaking. No shortcuts.
