Here's a number your HR team needs to see:

Employees with high caregiving strain are 40 TIMES more likely to report significant productivity loss than those with no caregiving responsibilities.

40 times.

Not a little distracted. Not occasionally late. Fundamentally unable to perform — because they're managing a parent with dementia, navigating a Medicare crisis, or grieving a loved one while sitting at their desk pretending everything is fine.

The 2026 Family Health Index confirms what I've watched unfold for three decades: family caregivers in the workforce are among the most invisible, under-supported employee populations in America. And it is costing companies millions in lost productivity, increased healthcare utilization, and quiet talent attrition.

They're not disengaged. They're drowning.

As a 30-year RN, I speak to corporate audiences about exactly this —
the human reality behind the data, and the practical strategies that
HR leaders and managers can implement to support caregiving employees
before burnout becomes turnover.

If your organization is ready to take caregiver employee support
seriously — as a retention strategy, a culture investment, and a
human imperative — let's connect.

Landmark reports published by the Alzheimer's Society reveal that the dementia care system is failing patients at every stage, exposing systemic gaps in support, severe under-resourcing, and critical inequalities in care.

And here's the part that breaks my heart — it's because they were never given the right tools, the right information, or the right support.

You are not failing. The SYSTEM is failing YOU.

I see it every day. A daughter who hasn't slept through the night in
months. A husband who doesn't recognize that the anger and grief he
carries is called caregiver burnout. A family torn apart trying to make
decisions together — in crisis — with no guide.

This is why I do what I do — help you understand what's really happening, what comes next, and how to walk through it with more peace and less guilt.

You don't have to figure this out alone.

You deserve support, too.

A Day in the Life of a Case Manager

People often think case management is about making phone calls, completing paperwork, or coordinating services.

And yes, sometimes it is.
But today, it looked like sitting beside a client after cataract surgery, accompanying him to his follow-up appointment, helping him navigate new glasses, asking questions on his behalf, and making sure he understood the next steps in his care.

Being a case manager means wearing many hats.

Some days I'm reviewing medical records, coordinating care teams, attending physician appointments, facilitating difficult family conversations, helping with transitions to assisted living or memory care, advocating in the hospital, arranging caregivers, or navigating hospice and end-of-life decisions.

Other days, it's simply showing up.

Because aging can be overwhelming. Medical systems can be confusing. Appointments can be intimidating. And sometimes what seniors need most is someone they trust sitting beside them, making sure they are heard, understood, and supported.

It is a privilege to walk alongside older adults and their families through some of life's most challenging seasons.

Every appointment, every conversation, every transition is an opportunity to help someone maintain their dignity, independence, and quality of life.

The tasks may vary from day to day, but the mission remains the same:
To ensure no senior has to navigate this journey alone.
Today was an eye appointment.
Tomorrow it may be a hospital discharge, a family meeting, or helping someone find the right place to call home.

And I am honored to serve.

June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Yet every year, it passes with far less attention than it deserves.

Elder abuse isn't just bruises or neglect. It can look like financial exploitation, manipulation, isolation, intimidation, overmedication, abandonment, or taking away someone's right to make choices about their own life.

And one of the biggest contributors?
Ageism.

Ageism teaches us that older adults are less valuable, less capable, less deserving of respect, and somehow less worthy of being heard. When we stop seeing the person and only see their age, mistreatment becomes easier to ignore.

The truth is that older adults deserve the same dignity, autonomy, respect, and protection as anyone else.

As our population ages, this is not someone else's issue. It affects our parents, grandparents, spouses, neighbors, friends, and one day, it may affect us.

Another reality we don't talk about enough is funding.
Despite the growing number of older adults in our communities, programs dedicated to preventing elder abuse, supporting victims, educating caregivers, investigating allegations, and protecting vulnerable seniors remain significantly underfunded.

Awareness is important, but awareness alone is not enough.

We need resources, advocacy, and financial investment to ensure older adults receive the protection and support they deserve.

This June 15, take a moment to learn the signs of elder abuse, speak up when something doesn't feel right, challenge ageist attitudes whenever you hear them, and support organizations working to protect older adults.

Our elders spent a lifetime building the communities we enjoy today. They deserve more than gratitude. They deserve safety, dignity, respect, and protection.

A society is often judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members.

Let's make sure our elders are seen, heard, valued, respected, protected and that the programs serving them receive the funding they need to continue this vital work.

"Growing older is a privilege. Being treated with dignity should be a guarantee."

The End-of-Life Doula Movement Is Growing — And For Good Reason.

Hospice provides incredible medical support. But many families discover there are still gaps when a loved one is approaching the end of life.

Questions arise that aren't always medical:

• How do we prepare emotionally?
• What conversations still need to happen?
• How do we create a meaningful goodbye?
• What can we expect in the final days and hours?
• How do we support the entire family through the process?

This is where end-of-life doulas can make a profound difference.

Across the world, awareness of death doulas is growing because families are looking for more than clinical care. They want guidance, education, advocacy, presence, and support during one of life's most important transitions.

As both a Registered Nurse and End-of-Life Doula, Kimberly believes that dying deserves the same thoughtful planning, dignity, and compassion as every other major life event.

Death is a part of life. It doesn't have to be faced alone.

If your family is navigating serious illness, hospice, or end-of-life decisions, we're here to help you understand your options and create a plan that brings peace of mind.

COLORADO SENIOR PLACEMENT TIP OF THE WEEK

💡 Did you know that memory care communities in the Denver metro area can range from $7500 to $10000+ per month — and the price difference often comes down to the level of specialized dementia programming, staff ratios, and safety features, NOT the size of the building?

Before you choose based on cost alone, make sure you're comparing the right things. As a senior placement nurse in Colorado, I help families cut through the confusion and find the community that truly fits.

Here's something that stopped me in my tracks.

Researchers confirmed that a single blood test can now predict when someone will develop Alzheimer's symptoms — up to 20 years before they appear.

As a nurse with 30 years of experience and a dementia care specialist, I know what that means for families. We can plan ahead and maybe even diminish symptoms.

But here's the thing nobody is talking about: a diagnosis doesn't have to be a death sentence for your family's peace. I've walked alongside hundreds of families through this journey — and the ones who struggle the most are the ones who try to figure it out alone.

You don't have to do that.

Whether you're just noticing the early signs, already deep in caregiving, or trying to figure out what kind of support your loved one really needs —I'm here. I can help you find your footing.

A new study showed that a blood test can estimate when someone will begin to show Alzheimer’s symptoms. This could help researchers better design approaches to prevent or treat symptoms.
