Before applying stainless steel cleaner to your appliances, wipe them down with a damp cloth first. You'll use too much if you don't clean the appliance beforehand. When cleaning your kitchen, make a sink full of hot, soapy water & wipe down the appliances before doing anything else with that water (the cleaner the water, the cleaner the appliances). Then, apply the stainless steel cleaner & wipe to a shine with a soft, dry cloth.

Do you have a fiberglass tub or shower? Uuugh! You know they're practically impossible to clean once they've been stained. There IS a solution. Use a "magic" sponge. Spray it with a bleach-intensified cleanser, & scrub those stains out with that "magic" sponge. The more elbow grease you use, the better it will get. Believe it or not, once you're finished, it will look practically new.

Take the start of Spring to change out a few things. In this case, throw away your old broom & mop. A broom & mop are not meant to last indefinitely. They are harbingers of dust, dirt & general filth. Why hold on to them year after year? Start this Spring cleaning season anew by replacing these well-used cleaning tools. Your house will thank you.

Are your e-mail accounts overrun with random marketing notices that you have no interest in? Use one word in the search filter to eliminate them all at once. Type "unsubscribe", & everything with that word will populate. (It's usually an option at the bottom of marketing notices). You can check them all at once & delete them from your files in one fell swoop! Computer housekeeping is important too.

When washing a sink full of dishes, consider the order in which they should be done. Once you've filled your sink with soapy water, wipe down your counters first. Next, wash the glasses while the water is still relatively clean. Then, wash the plates, bowls, silverware & random utensils. Before you wash the pots & pans, spray the microwave oven & stovetop with a degreaser, then wipe them thoroughly. Finally, wash those pots & pans, adding more detergent & hot water if necessary. Everything is easier when there's a method to the madness.

Cleaning stuffed animals can be tricky, but here's a helpful hint. They are harbingers of dust & allergens & really should be washed once in a while. Place them in a pillow case, secure the end with a hair tie & toss them in the washing machine. Use cold water, the gentle cycle, & add an extra spin. Once they're finished, simply put them in the dryer with a couple of dryer sheets. Now they are fresh & fun again!

Refilling your liquid hand soap bottle is economical & convenient, but don't let the appearance of the container be a deterrent to your guests when they are washing their hands. Avoid soap buildup & disinfect the container by wiping it down once a week & prior to refilling. Don't forget to wipe around the top & underside of the pumping mechanism along with the bottle itself. Even "clean" things can get dirty, so don't forget about this often overlooked item.

When cleaning the bathroom sink, don't forget to wipe down everything surrounding it. Toothpaste, shaving cream, water, hairspray, & more splatter onto your mirror, curling irons, toothpaste holders, soap dishes, hair dryers, lotion & everything else that you keep next to the sink. Take a moment & wipe everything off & place things where they belong as you go. Ta-da! Another forgotten mess cleaned up.
