Shell Stone Pavers

Without naming specific manufacturers or installers, caution is advised when selecting a contractor for the increasingly popular shell stone style pavers commonly used on back patios and pool decks. Based on the volume of online complaints, as well as feedback from several of our own customers who currently have these pavers installed, this is a product we would personally approach with hesitation. The staining shown in the images below is originating from.......

Hose Spigots (is there a difference?)

After personally connecting to thousands of spigots while cleaning homes, the question remains: Is there truly a difference in quality and effectiveness? Short answer is YES. Below are my findings on residential hose spigots.

𝘗𝘳𝘰'𝘴
Inexpensive. Roughly $5 to $8 to replace with similar brass type.

Handles made of zinc alloy. prone to corrosion and snapping within a few years.
If rarely used handle valve becomes hard to operate.
Hammer arrestor/backflow added to output always fail due to hard water deposits.
Will often spray water back at you when turning off the water as pressure within the hose escapes at the valve.
Hard water leads to calcified "seized" hoses at connection.
Significantly reduced water flow.
Significantly reduced water pressure.
The seal on the valve often times fail resulting in steady leaks out of the handle or main opening.

𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹
𝘗𝘳𝘰'𝘴
One finger open and close operation.
Will not corrode.
Always looks new.
Maximum flow - Notice how the stainless spigot has a 45°neck which creates less turbulence and friction as compared to 90° standard spigots.
Maximum pressure.
Your garden hose connection threading won't wear out as fast.

Price. $20 to $25

Keep your Tenants Happy!

The exterior of your property is the first thing tenants see, making exterior maintenance a critical part of any landlord’s checklist. A clean, well-maintained appearance contributes massively to tenant satisfaction. Happy tenants are more likely to renew their leases, reducing turnover rates and the associated costs for landlords. As a bonus, it will also enhance curb appeal.

The Pressure Kru, Inc. can help create an inviting and comfortable atmosphere for your tenants, making them proud of where they live and more likely to stick around.

Useful spray tip: make sure the water is active at your rental before scheduling service.

Potted Plants on Pavers.

Just about every paver sealing customer has heard my thoughts on potted plants sitting directly on pavers. Most of the staining left underneath pots doesn’t come from the water it comes from potting soil and the fertilizers mixed into it. The water simply acts as the delivery system, pulling those stains out of the soil and draining them straight onto your pavers.

About half the time, those stains clean up just fine. The other half? They get sealed in permanently… which is not the kind of “long-term protection” anyone wants.

If you absolutely must have potted plants on your pavers, do yourself a favor and use drip trays. There are some great ones out there with threaded drain holes that let you plumb a line and send that runoff somewhere it won’t ruin your hardscape.

Check your 1st Floor window sills before service

Before your scheduled exterior cleaning, take a moment to check your ground floor window sills. About 99% of window screens are designed to be removed from inside the home. If there’s any grimy mystery sludge hanging out down there, I can do a much better job cleaning the sills when they’re accessible.

If you decide to remove some screens, do yourself a favor and remember which window they came from because once they’re stacked in the garage, every screen looks exactly the same.

Rusty Irrigation Well Water

Residents who irrigate their lawns with well water should regularly check their sprinkler heads. All it takes is a lawnmower tire or an innocent shoe kick to knock a head out of alignment and suddenly that rusty well water is spraying your concrete, pavers, or home’s exterior.

If you catch rust staining early on your hardscapes or siding, it can usually be cleaned with good results. But if you keep living your best life and ignore those spray heads, the rust has more time to set in… and the chances of successful removal drop significantly.

Paver Patches and Paver Additions

These photos always resurface in my memories, and just to be clear no negative energy here. We’ve all had a “this will look great” idea that… looked better in our heads.

This little spray tip is for anyone thinking about patching or extending existing paver hardscapes. The main thing to know? If you're trying to blend old pavers with new. They never match. Ever.

And if you’re thinking, “Yeah but once I get them cleaned and sealed, they’ll totally blend!”

No.
They won’t. 🙂

Swim season may be over, but your pool doesn’t have to look like it threw in the towel.

Even if it’s cold and you’re not using the backyard much, it should still look inviting enough to make you want to go outside… at least for a minute. Unless your patio view comes with a mountain, the “green” you’re seeing is probably algae—and it’s definitely not the good kind.

New Year, Clean Exterior!

You’ve cleaned inside and now it’s time for the outside.

Don’t Paint Your Driveway!!! (Seriously… Just Don’t 😅)
Are you really going to hire a pro every five years to repaint your driveway with a maintenance coat? Probably not.
Are you going to DIY a fresh coat every two years? Also probably not.
Painting your driveway as a quick, affordable curb-appeal boost before selling usually backfires. Over time, it hurts the overall look of the home—and eventually the neighborhood too. I’ve seen hundreds of painted concrete driveways, and honestly, 99% of the time when I pull up, they all end up looking exactly like this.
Now, I get it—there are plenty of reasons people decide to paint. Maybe you’re trying to hide old oil stains. Maybe the irrigation water left that lovely orange tint. Maybe your neighbor did theirs and it looked good… at first.
But trust me, driveways have a way of telling the truth eventually.

Patio Furniture: To clean or not to clean

I always recommend the home owner remove patio furnishings the night before their scheduled exterior cleaning service. Put them inside the garage or place them far out into the yard away from potential chemical overspray. Reason being that sodium hypochlorite (one of the chemicals in our house softwash mix) "could" ruin the finish color of said item(s). The majority of exterior patio furnishings are bleach stable, but it's just too risky to chance. That said… if that patio furniture is already on death row (aka you’ve been meaning to drag it to the curb for trash pickup) then by all means, let it ride during your annual house wash. Worst case? It was trash anyway. Best case? You’re suddenly the proud owner of patio furniture that looks shockingly less embarrassing. The blue loungers below were on their way to the curb...and then they chose redemption.

Leachate vs. Efflorescence on Pavers

Ever say to yourself: "why are my brand new pavers starting to look like crap?"

The image captures Leachate staining along the base of a Saint Johns, FL paver driveway. A common issue with pavers installed over earth prone to hydrostatic pressure. At times of prolonged wet weather, the level of the groundwater within the construction layers can rise to a point where it is at or even above the paving level.
