MPORTANT MESSAGE TO ALL MY CUSTOMERS
(From a 12-year carpet & fiber-care specialist)
After serving this valley for over a decade, I’ll be closing my business in the next few months as I move into a new career path.
Until I officially close my doors, I will still be accepting appointments.
Before I wrap up my service, I want to leave you with the most important carpet-care information I’ve learned in 12 years—things most companies never explain, and things every homeowner deserves to know.
This is true, science-based information that will protect your carpets, your home, and your health.
⸻
1. THE REAL ENEMY OF CARPET IS SAND
Carpet is just fiber.
What destroys it is embedded sand, which scratches and wears the fiber from the inside.
Sand causes:
• Permanent dulling
• “Blooming” (fibers unravel)
• Worn-out traffic lanes that never come clean
• Loss of factory protection
Slow vacuuming is the only way to remove embedded sand properly.
⸻
2. CARPET CLEANING IS CHEMISTRY — NOT JUST WATER
A correct professional cleaning must include two parts:
1. An alkaline cleaner to break down oils
2. An acid rinse to neutralize those alkalines
If the carpet is not neutralized, it will feel sticky and will re-soil very quickly.
Unfortunately, many companies skip the acid-rinse step entirely.
Neutralization is what prevents residue and keeps the carpet clean longer.
⸻
3. PROPER PROTECTOR ONLY WORKS ON A CLEAN, NEUTRALIZED FIBER
Protector (often called “Scotchgard” but also made by many brands) ONLY bonds properly when:
✔ Dirt and oils are removed
✔ The carpet has been neutralized
✔ The fiber is clean and raw
Applying protector on top of residue is useless.
When applied correctly, it helps fibers stay strong and resist breakdown.
⸻
4. IF YOU HAVE PETS, PLEASE READ THIS
Pet oils and dander cling to:
• Carpets
• Padding
• Baseboards
• Walls
• Door frames
When humidity rises or AC is off, those oils “activate” and create strong odors.
Before any cleaning, it is essential to:
✔ Inspect with a blacklight
✔ Treat urine correctly with enzyme solutions
✔ Flush out contamination where possible
No deodorizer can replace proper urine treatment.
Covering odor is not the same as removing it.
⸻
5. AVOID “QUICK-DRY” OR LOW-MOISTURE COMPANIES FOR RESIDENTIAL CARPET
Some methods use heavy machines or friction-based pads that:
• Strip fiber protection
• Cause premature wear
• Can void carpet warranties
Quick dry is great for commercial glue-down carpet,
but never ideal for residential plush carpet.
⸻
6. WHAT HOME SHAMPOOERS REALLY DO (IMPORTANT)
Home carpet shampooers sold in department stores rely heavily on residue-based detergents.
These detergents:
• Leave sticky residues
• Attract dirt, sand, and oils
• Create rapid soiling
• Cause traffic lanes to appear much sooner
• Take much longer to dry
• Can lead to musty odors if over-used
Most home units also lack:
• True high heat for sanitizing
• Sufficient vacuum power
• A neutralizing rinse
If someone wants to use a home shampooer, the safest path is:
✔ ONLY use a neutral (non-residue) cleaning solution
✔ NEVER use scented detergents or high-foaming cleaners
✔ NEVER rely on these machines for deep cleaning
⸻
7. HOW TO KEEP CARPET HEALTHY LONG-TERM
• Clean once a year (more often with pets)
• Vacuum slowly and thoroughly
• Use an outdoor brush mat for sand removal
• Use an indoor flat mat to catch oils
• Wear socks/slippers/flip-flops indoors (bare feet leave oils)
• Clean walls and baseboards occasionally (pet oils cling)
• Reapply protector after each professional cleaning
• Avoid residues at all costs
Bare feet and body oils are the #1 reason hallways and bedrooms soil faster.
⸻
8. BEWARE OF “TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE” PRICING
Many companies advertise extremely low prices, then add hidden charges onsite.
Expect huge upcharges for:
• “Deep cleaning”
• “Pet treatment”
• “Special detergents”
• “Mandatory deodorizer”
• “Required disinfectant”
A real estimate can only be given after inspecting:
• Carpet condition
• Level of contamination
• Presence of urine
• Fiber type
• Traffic levels
Good companies will tell you the truth.
Others rely on pressure tactics.

FINAL WORD (AND A THANK YOU)
I’ve spent 12 years in this industry, and everything above is based on real chemistry, manufacturer guidelines, and thousands of homes I personally serviced.
As I phase out of the business in the next few months, I want to leave you with knowledge that protects your home long after I’m gone.
If you need service one last time before I close, feel free to message me.
I’d be happy to take care of you.
Thank you for supporting my small business all these years.
