last week we had a full SCRAT crew to check some old haunts. not too many rats, but young and old dogs alike got in on the action and all had a good time.

We had a great time ratting at our usual Sacramento spots on Tuesday night. It was exciting because Univision 19 was out with us doing a story on our ratting team — we’ll be sure to share the link once it’s posted! The dogs were really on their A-game, and made some incredible catches.

This past Sunday we paid a visit to Vallejo again and it does seem to be less rats than previous visits! Our terriers caught 11 rats on this outing.

Ratting dogs will “mark” (indicate through staring, digging, barking, etc) the presence of a rat. While the dogs do the finding and catching, there is plenty of work for the humans too. Our job is honor their marks by disturbing, moving, and digging if needed to get the rats out to them. Raven is clearly marking this spot along the fencing, and once we were able to get the big rock out of her way, she made quick work of it!

Raven and Nora got to play on a local ranch this morning, and removed 15 rats from in and around the chicken coop! Some rats are easy to catch, meanwhile these ones had some great hiding spots. Still they were no match for terrier tenacity.
