A question we are often asked is how one’s air duct system becomes dirty.
Of course, many times it could be the result of something large like a hole in the ductwork or an unsealed access point from your attic or some other unfinished crawlspace; but buildup is more commonly caused as a result of an inefficient filtration system.
Contaminants build up inside the supply and return lines of your ductwork over time and then spread around when the warm or cool air blows through.
Returns can also suck in contaminated outside air including pollens and pet dander, and those recirculate as well. In short, many things contribute to dirty ductwork, which is why its important to have if professionally inspected from time to time.
