Did you see the monks traveling through the Richmond area? 🧘♀️
Christi, our Vice President, got to see them. She shared her experience with me (Melissa) and I got her permission to share here. Because even in her off hours when she's trying to absorb zen and good vibes from traveling monks, she's living the Home Harmony values. 🥹
If you were there when you heard these brilliant, wonderful monks say you don't clean because you're lazy, please know: they don't know everything and they don't know you.
We prioritize our daily tasks in different ways. When you're struggling to get out of bed because depression has you down, or you're trying to hold onto the thought of signing your kid's permission slip before ADHD steals it from you, or you're hyperventilating in panic because the walls seem like they are closing in, or having an illness flare up and can barely feed yourself... you are NOT prioritizing cleaning a mirror! That is good! That is important! It isn't laziness. 💪🏼
So yeah, I wanted to share this convo between me and Christi because it is important, and maybe you were hurt by those words. Keep ignoring the mirror. When you're ready for help, we're here.
Images are two screenshots of a conversation between Christi Jolley and Melissa Todd. The text is as follows:
Christi. - They said not cleaning your bathroom mirror was because we're lazy.
Christi. - The monks said that.
Christi. - They did say other things that actually made sense, but I was like HOLD ON GIVE ME THE MIC Y'ALL NEED TO HEAR THIS. It's not laziness. I promise. That's not it.
Melissa. - Omg no.
Melissa. - That is awful.
Christi. - Lots of good reminders to slow down and focus on the things you can control. But yeah, the laziness and cleanliness parallel made me uneasy. Because I personally know its way more complicated than that and I think a simple shift to feeling not in control of your habits and values would have been more profound - but I also didn't walk 2,000 miles across the country so in the realm of profoundness, they definitely come out on top.
Melissa. - I don't know about that.
Melissa. - You have way more than 2,000 miles of profound life experience.
