After nearly 200 entries, only 12 correctly guessed 81 degrees as the temperature at 7pm at Freedom Jam! Congratulations to Tony Garvin, winner of our giant fireworks package courtesy of our friends at G101-3 and Scarrette Pyrotechnics Shows and Displays.

With temps in the 90's and heat indices from 105-111, it's going to be dangerously hot. So, here's a preemptive shoutout to our employees who are going to be doing hot, hard work this week--and who likely will be working more hours than scheduled because they care about this community and the people in it.

Here are some tips to keep cool, reduce energy, and save money:

• Stay hydrated.
• Stay inside if you can—especially during the hottest hours of the day
• Bring your pets in if you can. If you can’t, make sure they have plenty of water and a shaded area.
• Keep your windows covered.
• Avoid major appliance use at peak hours.
• Use cool(er) water in place of hot water for bathing and laundry.
• Run fans to reduce the heat/humidity (bath/shower/kitchen)
• Use outdoor grills, microwaves, instant pots, or air fryers instead of your kitchen range. If you have to use your range, opt for the stovetop over the oven.
• Dine out when possible so that you aren’t adding heat into your home by cooking. You also won’t have to use your own A/C to keep yourself cool.
• Turn off lights and devices.
• Minimize “Energy Vampires”.
• Make sure you have clean filters and your HVAC has had a Spring/Summer tune-up.
• Ceiling fans will help you feel up to four degrees cooler, but they don’t cool your home when you aren’t there.
• Call Bader if you need help with your air conditioning unit 765-962-4440. We’re here 24/7.
