Stop telling your kids they don't want to grow up to be a toilet cleaner. It’s not so bad here.
We’ve all heard it. A kid points at a garbage truck or a cleaning van, and a parent says, "You better study hard, or you'll end up doing that."
It’s meant to be motivational, but all it really does is teach kids that hard, honest work is something to be ashamed of.
Here’s the truth about being a professional cleaner:
I own my own business. I set my own hours. I make my own money. I am a disabled veteran, a survivor, and a CEO.
I get to walk into a house that is drowning in chaos and shame, and I get to be the person who brings the peace back. I get to help people who feel completely overwhelmed finally breathe again. I get to scrub a toilet until it shines and know that I did that. I made that happen.
There is dignity in cleaning. There is good money in cleaning. There is deep, meaningful purpose in taking care of people’s spaces.
When a kid sees me in my gear, I don’t want them to feel sorry for me. I want them to see a strong woman who built an empire with her own two hands.
It’s not a last resort. It’s a career. And it’s not so bad here. ❤️
