💛 I wear black and yellow like I'm always dressed for game day.

🏠 I love building paper homes... but trust me, you don't want one attached to your house.

😤 I have a reputation for having a short temper.

Unlike bees, I have a taste for meat and sugary drinks.

🙅 I can sting you... and unlike some insects, I don't have to stop at just one sting.

🕵️‍♂️ BUG OF THE WEEK IS HERE!

🤔 Can you guess this week's bug before watching the video?

Here are a few clues...

I have LOTS of legs... but not as many as my name would have you believe.

🏃 I'm definitely not winning any races—slow and steady is more my style.

🍂 I spend my days cleaning up nature's mess by recycling dead leaves and plants.

When life gets scary, I don't fight... I curl up into a tiny spiral and hope everyone leaves me alone.

😅 And no... despite what my cousins in horror movies might suggest, I'm not interested in chasing you!

Think you know what it is? 🤔

This week bug is the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug!

Ever walking around your home and noticed a shield-shaped bug hanging around your windows in the fall? Yeah, high chance that's a Brown Marmorated Stink Bug!

🔎 DID YOU KNOW? 🤯
They're not really known for biting, stinging, or damaging your home, but they can quickly become a nuisance when temperatures drop. As the seasons change from summer to fall, they begin searching for warm places to spend the winter🥶—often finding their way inside our homes.🏠

WHY ARE THEY CALLED STINK BUGS?🤔
When disturbed or crushed, they release a strong odor as a defense mechanism. It's their way of telling predators, "Stay away!" KINDA LIKE A SKUNK

HELPFUL TIPS!
✔ Seal cracks and gaps around doors and windows
✔ Repair damaged screens
✔ Check around utility lines and vents
✔ Keep leaves and debris away from your foundation
✔ Consider a preventative exterior treatment before fall arrives

PEST OF THE WEEK: FUNGUS GNATS

See those tiny annoying flies buzzing around your houseplants are harmless? Think again!

Fungus gnats may be small, but their larvae live in the soil and feed on organic matter—and sometimes tender plant roots. While they won't bite people or damage your home, they can be a real headache for plant lovers.

😲 Did You Know? Adult fungus gnats lay their eggs in moist potting soil. Once the eggs hatch, tiny worm-like larvae begin feeding beneath the surface where you can't see them!

1️⃣ Adult gnat lays eggs in damp soil
2️⃣ Eggs hatch into larvae
3️⃣ Larvae feed on organic matter and roots
4️⃣ Adults emerge and repeat the cycle

Remember not to over water your plants. Make sure the soil is dry before next watering.

🚨 What Attracts Them?
✔ Overwatered plants
✔ Damp potting soil
✔ Poor drainage
✔ Decaying organic matter

✅ How To Prevent Them • Let soil dry between waterings • Remove dead leaves from pots • Use well-draining potting mix • Avoid overwatering indoor plants • Use yellow sticky traps to catch adults

Healthy plants start with healthy soil!

Have you ever battled fungus gnats in your houseplants? Tell us your best tip in the comments! 👇
