Start your creative year with Maday Delgado at her first winter retreat January 29th-February 1st , 2026 (4 days and 3 nights, meals included $595). Taylor Hall will be the site of this beautiful quilt retreat and the location is a quiet corner on Lake Michigan in southeast Racine, Wi. on the grounds of the DeKoven Center. With a majority of the attention in the quilt/textile world on creating a huge stash some of us would like to focus as well on the art of re-using, renewing, and recycling in our work. It is just one other dimension of our creative self - unconventional quilting should be promoted to “conventional” as I hear people asking all the time “What do you do with all your ( insert here: scraps and MORE scraps, binding, batting pieces, selvage strips, sentimental clothing, denim, threads, and even plastic!)?” Of course the origin of piecing and quilting was thrift not waste.
Taylor Hall is located on the campus of an old boys’ college (founded in 1857) and we will have complete use of the beautifully restored 4 story dormitory. Besides the large room where we will be individually set up with tables, ironing and cutting stations, design walls, your sewing machines and projects; we welcome educator and sustainability expert, Maday Delgado! With 6 hours of instruction for three of the 4 days; all your meals and clean up provided, you still have time to work on either your own projects or develop Maday’s inspiring ideas with feedback and sharing. At all the retreats I have been to there is always somebody (many somebodies) who love to work far into the night/morning and you will be free to do that without disturbing others who head off to the library or to bed. We have access on the first floor to a beautiful library; a cozy sitting room with fireplace; a buffet and dining room for our meals or just hanging having coffee or a drink; and of course an elevator to your private single bedrooms on the 2nd or 3rd floor or back to the loading/unloading area/ramp in the basement. This venue checks all the boxes for an ideal retreat location. Full disclosure: three people assigned to each large bathroom.
Maday Delgado just finished teaching at the Greater Wisconsin Quilt show in Madison. She travels extensively and internationally teaching, writing and sewing as she goes. She has classes at her home base shops: Ardyth’s Sew n Vac Shoppe in Baraboo, WI., Blue Bar Quilts in Middleton, WI., and the Textile Arts Center of Madison, WI. In 2020 she presented a Master Class to the design students at the Indian Institute of Art and Design in New Dehli, India. She teaches at Quilt Shows, folk schools and guilds throughout the US. You may also have seen her work in the book Quilted as well as UpperCase and other quilting magazines. We get to have her before she will be teaching at QuiltCon in Houston in February. There is so much to tell you about her that I should just direct you to her website sustainabletextiledesign.com, instagram https://www.instagram.com/sustainabletextiledesign/?hl=en or just google Maday Delgado!
