Be honest ... when was the last time you washed the comforter you are about to sleep under every night until April?

If the answer is a season ago, a year, or "it hasn't been yet" - you are normal! A queen or king sized comforter needs about 5 cubic feet of drum to get clean, and your washer doesn't have it.

Crammed in, it won't wash: it soaks. Then the dryer can't fully dry the middle, and that is where the musty smell and the flat, clumpy patches come from.

Meanwhile it has been collecting a whole summer of sweat, skin and whatever the dog brought up onto the bed. 😳

The nights are turning. Walk the house once with a basket - primary bed, kids' rooms, the guest room before Thanksgiving, the couch blanket everyone uses but no one washes - and set the pile out. We wash it in commercial equipment big enough to actually clean it, dry it all the way through, and bring it back folded.

Doing laundry at home is the most expensive mistake you'll make this week.

And it has nothing to do with the water, electricity or gas bill.

We audited one family's laundry for a week - 90 lbs, priced line by line against published local rates.

Water, sewer, power, detergent, even the wear on the machines. Add it all up and it's about $62 a month. Genuinely cheap.
