GLOWING PUMPKINS WILL LINE DOWNTOWN PRATTVILLE STARTING THIS FRIDAY, AND THE CITY LIGHTS THEM UP EVERY SINGLE NIGHT.
The 8th annual Parade of Pumpkins runs October 16 through 31, 2026, in Historic Downtown Prattville, and admission is free. 🎃
Pumpkins are decorated by residents and local schools, then set out along downtown streets. The city lights the displays each night. Candles are not allowed, so the glow comes from the city's own lighting.
The 2026 event also includes a Harvest Haven, a Butterfly Garden, and a GLOW Trail. Food trucks will park at the Spillway and at The Lyric, from 5 to 9 PM Sunday through Thursday and 5 to 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.
Other events are planned around it, including Fall Artist on Main on October 20, Paddles and Pumpkins on October 25, and movie and music nights at The Lyric.
The setting has a long story. In 1838 an industrialist named Daniel Pratt bought nearly 2,000 acres along Autauga Creek for 20,000 dollars.
Pratt built a cotton gin factory powered by the creek. It employed up to 175 workers and could make as many as 1,500 gins a year. A town grew up around it and took his name. Autauga Creek still flows through the heart of downtown.
Prattville became the seat of Autauga County in 1868, when the legislature moved it from Kingston.
Gin making continued in Prattville for generations. Pratt's company merged into Continental Gin in 1899, and gins were made in the city until 2012.
The Daniel Pratt Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and includes more than 150 buildings.
Today Prattville is home to about 36,600 people. 🍂
For two weeks this October, the old mill town will glow orange along the creek where it all began.
