Seeing millipedes everywhere after all this South Florida rain? 🌧️
Extended periods of rain can saturate lawns, soil and mulch beds, pushing millipedes out of their normal hiding areas and toward patios, exterior walls, garages and entry points.
Millipedes are generally harmless, but when conditions stay wet, their numbers around the home can become a serious.
1.Reduce excess moisture when possible — pause unnecessary irrigation during wet periods and address chronic drainage problems where practical.
2. Reduce harborage near the home — keep heavy mulch, leaf litter and decomposing organic material from accumulating directly against the structure.
3. Treat infested lawn/landscape areas when warranted — a properly labeled millipede product may be used as a broadcast treatment where populations are active.
4. Create an exterior perimeter barrier — treat likely entry zones around the foundation, doors, cracks, steps and other movement points with a product labeled for millipedes.
