Why do I test my soil? First, this allows me to customize fertilizer options for my customers. Second, it lets me know what amendments the soil may require, ie. lime or gypsum. Third, and lastly, I discover things about the lawn that I can note in the customer’s file.
The pic shows one of several samples from a lawn I had tested last week. The bit I’m pointing to is an existing lawn that was covered up in a construction project. This is significant due to the fact that this buried thatch layer could cause drainage problems and if it is shallower in other parts of the lawn there could be detrimental effects to the new turf this coming growing season.
