Hosting Thanksgiving this year?

More guests means more showers, dishes, laundry and flushing, and that extra water is one of the most common reasons septic systems back up over the holidays. Nobody wants that surprise with a house full of company.

We still have a few openings before Thanksgiving, but they’re filling up fast. Book your pump-out now so you can focus on the turkey, not the tank.

One of the top question we get: "How often should I pump my septic tank?"

Honest answer: it depends.

Things that change it:
🏠 Tank size
πŸ‘¨β€πŸ‘©β€πŸ‘§β€πŸ‘¦ How many people live in the house
🍽️ Garbage disposal use (it fills the tank faster)
🚿 How much water you use day to day

A lot of homes land somewhere around every 3–5 years, but every system is different. That's why we don't give one answer for everyone. When we pump yours, we look it over and tell you when your system should be done next. Then we'll remind you for free when it's time.

Got a question about your system? Drop it in the comments or call us at (413) 583-3629.

Ever wonder where it goes when you flush? If you're not on town sewer, it's going into your backyard. This quick animated video walks through how a septic system works: the septic tank and its layers of sludge, scum and clear water, the inlet and outlet baffles, the distribution box (D-box), and the leach field.

Over time the sludge gets deeper and the scum gets thicker. With less room in the middle of the tank, solids don't have time to settle, so they end up in the leach field and can clog the stone. That's why we recommend having your septic tank pumped every 2 to 4 years. A pump-out costs a lot less than replacing a leach field.
