🌱 Give Your Lawn a Fresh Start This Fall! 🌱

Is your lawn looking thin, patchy, or stressed after the summer? Core aeration and overseeding can help get it back on track!

💨 What does aeration do?
Core aeration removes small plugs of soil from your lawn, helping reduce soil compaction and allowing water, oxygen, and nutrients to reach the root zone more easily.

🌾 What does overseeding do?
Overseeding introduces new grass seed into your existing lawn to help fill in thin areas and create a thicker, fuller lawn.

🌱 Why do them together?
Aeration creates openings in the soil that improve seed-to-soil contact, giving new grass seed a better opportunity to germinate and establish.

Fall is a great time to give your lawn some attention after the stress of summer and help prepare it for next spring!

I'm starting a new series on common problems. The First common problem I'm going to post about is Brown Patch fungus and what can be done.
Brown Patch Fungus: What You Need to Know

Seeing brown, circular patches popping up in your lawn? It could be Brown Patch, a common fungal disease that thrives during warm, humid conditions.

🔎 Common signs:
• Circular or irregular brown patches
• Thin, damaged areas of grass
• A darker border around the affected area
• Often appears after periods of high humidity or frequent rain

💧 What causes it?
Brown Patch is encouraged by excess moisture, high humidity, poor air circulation, and over-fertilization, especially when lawns stay wet overnight.

🌿 How can you help prevent it?
• Water deeply but less frequently
• Water early in the morning
• Avoid excessive nitrogen fertilizer during disease-favorable conditions
• Improve airflow and sunlight where possible
• Keep your mower blades sharp and mow at the proper height

Remember: Brown Patch doesn't always mean your lawn needs more fertilizer or water. The most common thing I see is when customers assume that they need to water more when they see this disease start. Sometimes, the best thing you can do is reduce moisture and give the grass a chance to dry out.

If you're seeing brown patches and aren't sure what's causing them, we can help identify the problem and recommend the right treatment! 🌱

✂️ Mow Tall to Grow Strong

Mowing too short (“scalping”) is one of the top causes of weak, patchy lawns—especially in heat.

📏 Recommended fescue height (KS Dept. of Ag): 2.5 – 3.5 inches
✔️ Taller grass shades roots
✔️ Reduces weeds
✔️ Keeps soil cooler and retains moisture

Let your mower help—not hurt—your lawn this summer.

🏡 The 2 Things That Make or Break Your Lawn

You could have the best lawn treatments in the world—but if you're not watering right and mowing at the correct height, you’re working against your results.

❌ Short cuts + daily sprinkles = weeds, brown spots, shallow roots
✅ 2.5–3.5” mow height + deep watering = thick, strong, stress-resistant turf

🌿 Lawn Doctor builds the foundation—you maintain the momentum.

Let’s team up for a lawn you love all season long.

💧 Water Smarter This Summer
Hot weather is here—and so is lawn stress. Here’s how to keep your turf healthy:

✅ Water 2–3x per week, NOT daily
✅ Aim for 1–1.5 inches/week total (including rain)
✅ Water between 5–9 AM to avoid evaporation and fungus

🌿 Want to boost water retention? Ask about our Moisture Manager treatment—it helps lawns hold water longer and reduce watering by up to 50%.

What’s the most important—but most misunderstood—part of lawn care?
💧 WATERING.

Too little = stressed, patchy grass
Too much = shallow roots & disease

☀️ Especially during summer heat, watering correctly makes or breaks your lawn.

📌 Tip: Deep & infrequent watering (2–3x/week) is better than daily light sprinkling.
