Ever wonder what exactly is recyclable and what isn't ... Here is a list of some of the things you can put in your recycling bin and what you shouldn't ... I don't know how many times myself or the recycling center has received calls saying why isn't this recyclable it has the recycling logo on the bottom of it ... that doesn't necessarily mean its recyclable in our area ... any further questions please contact the recycling center at (641) 683*0684

🚛 Trash & Recycling Reminder from Bridge City Sanitation ♻️

Help us serve you better with these quick tips to make sure your trash and recycling are collected on time!

✅ Set your carts out the night before your scheduled pickup day. Our drivers often begin their routes early in the morning, so having your carts ready the evening before ensures you won't be missed.

✅ Remember that routes may change from week to week. Due to weather, road construction, staffing, holidays, or operational needs, your driver may reach your neighborhood earlier or later than usual. A different truck or driver may also service your area.

✅ Place carts at the curb with plenty of space. Keep at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides and avoid placing carts behind vehicles, mailboxes, or other obstacles.

✅ Keep the lid closed. Overfilled carts can create safety hazards and may prevent all materials from being collected.

♻️ Recycling Reminder: Please place only accepted recyclable materials in your recycling cart. Keeping recycling free of trash helps ensure it can be properly processed.

Your help makes a big difference! By having your carts out the night before and ready for pickup, you help our team provide safe, efficient, and reliable service throughout the community.

♻️ Did a new recycling bin or trash cart show up at your house that you didn't order? Don't worry—we probably sent it on purpose!

One of the improvements we're making is being more proactive about replacing damaged bins. When our drivers are out on their routes, they keep an eye out for recycling bins and trash carts that are cracked, broken, or in need of repair. If they spot one, they report it to the office, and we add it to our delivery list so we can replace or repair it—usually within just a couple of days.

Of course, if you notice your bin or cart is damaged before we do, please don't hesitate to give our office a call. We're always happy to help!

If you receive a new trash cart and we weren't able to pick up the old one at the time of delivery, please call the office to schedule a pickup so we can remove the old cart.

Your regular trash, recycling, and large item pickup schedules will remain unchanged at this time. We are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for all customers.

♻️ Friendly Reminders for Ottumwa Residents
To ensure safe, efficient, and hassle-free collection, please follow these important guidelines:
✅ Proper Spacing
Place trash and recycling carts at least 3 feet apart from each other and from other objects. This helps prevent damage and allows our automated trucks to safely collect your items.
✅ Correct Placement
Position carts within 3 feet of the curb or street.
✅ Cart Direction
Make sure the front of the cart (handle/bar) faces the street, with the wheels toward your home.
✅ Clear Overhead Space
Avoid placing carts under low-hanging branches, wires, or other overhead obstacles.
✅ Bag Your Trash
All trash placed in your cart must be bagged. This helps prevent loose debris from spilling and keeps our community clean.
