Memorial Day weekend is coming up — and for most buildings, it's one of the quietest weekends of the spring.

That sounds peaceful. But quiet weekends are exactly when small problems become big ones, because no one's around to spot them.

A few things our security and concierge teams keep a closer eye on during long holiday weekends:
- Increased perimeter and parking patrol frequency
- Tighter visitor verification (legitimate vendor traffic is rare on holiday weekends)
- Heightened attention to alarm anomalies that would be routine on weekdays

Hospitals and research labs aren't like other buildings.

When the people working inside are caring for patients or running clinical research, the cleaning team isn't just maintaining a space — they're protecting the work itself. Sterile conditions matter. Meet Efrain Portillo, our General Manager at Curry College — and as of last week, a 25-year member of the McGarr family.

For two and a half decades, Efrain has led our cleaning team at with the kind of quiet excellence that absolutely makes a difference. The students, faculty, and staff who walk into those buildings every day don't always know his name. But they feel his work. ❤️

Efrain is part of a remarkable McGarr family — supervisors, crew leads, and team members across cleaning, security, and concierge who've been with us for 10, 15, 20+ years. They are the reason our clients see the same faces year after year. Today, we're proud to celebrate one of them.

A small operational observation from inside our client portfolio:
At properties where we run more than one service — cleaning + security, or cleaning + concierge, or all three — the day-to-day looks different than at properties using separate vendors for each.

- Fewer coordination calls between vendor account managers.
- Cleaner escalation when something goes wrong after hours.
- One leadership group accountable across the services.

We're not pretending this is the market direction. Most properties still split services across multiple vendors, and that structure exists for legitimate reasons — specialization, competitive bidding, procurement risk distribution. Three vendors is still the norm.

But for the subset of properties that have consolidated services with us, the consistent feedback is that the operational quiet was worth the procurement work it took to get there.
