I think about how much s**t in my life would’ve been easier if I’d just dealt with it when I first knew something was wrong. The conversations I didn’t want to have, the money I didn’t want to look at, the things I kept telling myself weren’t THAT bad because I didn’t particularly feel like dealing with what it would mean if they were.
spoiler alert: I usually fu***ng knew. Most of us do. We just keep waiting for something to change so we don’t have to be the ones to change it. we’re being “patient”, “giving it time”, “picking our battles”. And sometimes we are. But sometimes we’re just avoiding the inevitable and calling it something that sounds more responsible.
Here’s what I’ve learned: ignoring something doesn’t make it go away. It usually just makes it a much bigger pain in the ass to deal with later.
You don’t have to blow up your entire life every time something feels off. But for the love of God, pay attention to what keeps coming back. There’s probably a reason it won’t leave you alone.
