As someone who owns a cleaning company, I recommend asking:

• Are you licensed and insured?
• Are your cleaners background-checked?
• Can you provide a detailed list of exactly what is included?
• Which services cost extra or are not included?
• Do you know which cleaning products are safe for every surface?
• Will you follow the proper care instructions for natural stone, hardwood, stainless steel and other delicate surfaces?
• Do you bring your own supplies and equipment?
• What happens if something is damaged or an area is missed?
• Do you have recent reviews or references?
• How do you communicate arrival times, delays and schedule changes?

One of the most important things is making sure everyone has the same expectations before the cleaning begins. Get a list of included tasks in writing, and make sure the cleaner understands what products can and cannot be used on the surfaces in your home—especially marble, granite, quartz, natural stone and hardwood.

The lowest price isn’t always the best value. You’re trusting someone with your home, so it’s completely reasonable to ask questions and choose a company that is knowledgeable, reliable and properly insured.
