đŸȘ¶ The Infamous Chimney Swift
Not Every Animal in Your Chimney Needs to Be Removed! 🏠

One of the most common calls we get is, “There’s something stuck in my chimney!” Surprisingly, it’s often not an animal that’s trapped at all—it’s a chimney swift.

These unique little birds are frequently mistaken for bats, squirrels, starlings, or other wildlife because of the scratching, fluttering, and constant chirping they make. In reality, your chimney is exactly where they want to be! They use chimneys as a substitute for the hollow trees they naturally nested in.

Here’s the important part: Chimney swifts are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. That means they cannot legally be removed or disturbed while they’re nesting.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a magic solution to get them out. The only legal option is to let nature take its course. Once the young birds have fledged, the entire family will leave on their own and eventually migrate all the way to South America for the winter.

After they’ve left, that’s the perfect time to install a quality chimney cap to prevent them from returning next season.

If you’re hearing noises in your chimney, don’t assume it’s a trapped animal. Give us a call—we can help identify what’s actually living in there and explain the safest and legal options.

Another successful groundhog exclusion! đŸŠ«

Groundhogs are incredible diggers, which is why simply filling in a hole or blocking the entrance almost never works. If you want to keep them out for good, you have to stop them from digging back underneath.

For this job, we dug a trench around the entire deck and installed heavy-duty, PVC-coated hardware cloth. We don’t use cheap wire mesh, this coated hardware cloth is much stronger, resists rust, and is built to last.

The key is bending the bottom of the mesh out at a 90-degree angle before burying it. If a groundhog tries to dig at the base of the deck, it runs into that underground barrier instead of finding a way underneath.

Once everything was securely installed, we backfilled the trench, graded the soil, and left the yard looking like we were never there.

A proper exclusion doesn’t just get rid of the current problem—it helps prevent the next one too.

If you’ve noticed groundhog burrows around your deck, shed, or foundation, give us a call. We’d be happy to help protect your property the right way.

Why Choosing a Full-Solution Wildlife Company Matters
When wildlife invades your home, removing the animal is only the first step. Many homeowners are surprised to learn that simply trapping or removing a squirrel, raccoon, bat, or other nuisance animal does not solve the entire problem. If the damage is left behind and entry points are not sealed, the animals—or new ones—will often return.
At ncswildlifesolutions.comâ ïżœ, we believe in providing a complete wildlife solution from start to finish. That means we don't just remove the animal—we repair the damage, animal-proof the structure, and remediate any contamination left behind.
What Is a Full-Solution Wildlife Company?
A full-solution wildlife company handles every aspect of the problem, including:
1. Wildlife Removal
The first step is safely and humanely removing the animal from your home or property. Whether it's squirrels in the attic, raccoons in the soffits, bats in the walls, or skunks under a deck, professional removal ensures the issue is addressed correctly.
2. Damage Repair
Wildlife can cause significant damage to homes. Animals often chew wiring, destroy insulation, tear apart vents, damage roofs, and create openings in siding and soffits. Simply removing the animal leaves these problems unresolved.
A full-solution company repairs the damage, restoring your home and eliminating vulnerabilities that attracted wildlife in the first place.
3. Animal-Proofing and Exclusion
One of the most important steps is preventing future invasions. Wildlife will often return to a successful nesting location year after year.
Professional exclusion services include:
Sealing entry points
Reinforcing vulnerable areas
Installing wildlife-proof vent covers
Repairing roof and soffit gaps
Securing chimneys and crawl spaces
Without proper animal-proofing, you're likely to face the same problem again.
4. Remediation and Cleanup
Many wildlife problems leave behind contamination that homeowners never see.
Animal waste, urine, nesting materials, and deceased animals can create:
Unpleasant odors
Staining and structural damage
Parasites and insects
Air quality concerns
Professional remediation removes contaminated materials, sanitizes affected areas, and restores the environment to a clean, safe condition.
Why Is a Full Solution Important?
Saves Money Long-Term
Hiring separate contractors for removal, repairs, cleanup, and exclusion can become expensive and time-consuming. A full-service wildlife company manages everything under one roof, often reducing overall costs and preventing repeat infestations.
Prevents Recurring Problems
Many homeowners experience the frustration of having animals removed only to have new wildlife move in weeks or months later. Proper exclusion and repairs eliminate access points and greatly reduce the chances of future invasions.
Protects Your Home
Wildlife damage often extends beyond what is visible. A comprehensive approach identifies hidden issues before they become major repairs, helping protect your home's value and structural integrity.
Creates a Healthier Environment
Contaminated insulation, droppings, urine, and nesting materials can affect indoor air quality and attract insects. Remediation ensures your home is clean, safe, and healthy for your family.

I had an obnoxious raccoon that was destroying things on our porch and pulling apart our outside cat house. Scott caught a possum the first day and carefully released it. The second day he caught the raccoon! Very knowledgeable, fast efficient service!
