I think the Oreck Commercial XL is one of the most underrated vacuums out there.

I bought one months ago, used it for a while, and liked it so much that I ended up buying two more.

I still love my Shark vacuums, but for around the same price, these are so much sturdier and have noticeably stronger suction. They’re lightweight (only 9 pounds), durable, and designed to handle daily commercial use. They handle those heavy black entrance mats you see at office buildings like a dream!

Pros:
• Excellent suction
• Lightweight
• Super long cord
• Built to last
• Easy and inexpensive to maintain

Cons:
• No hose or onboard attachments
• No headlight
• Loud

These cons though seem to be the case for most commercial vacuums. We went to a vacuum store last week and none of the commercial vacuums had lights or hoses.

For my commercial work, I pair the Oreck with a backpack vacuum for detail work, and it’s been an excellent combination that saves a ton of time.

I promise this isn’t sponsored, I just wanted to share a tool that has seriously impressed me. Sometimes the simplest equipment ends up being the most dependable.

Move Out Cleans!

We don’t do many move out cleans anymore unless they’re for our current clients, and every time we do, someone is surprised by how long they take.

The truth is, a proper move out clean is one of the most time consuming services there is. It means cleaning the home from top to bottom, including cabinets, drawers, appliances, baseboards, bathrooms, and every little detail.

I’ve posted before about how move out cleans really need as much advance notice as possible, not just for us, but for any cleaner. They take a significant amount of time, it’s difficult to fit one into an already full schedule, and it usually means giving up a day off for that week.

That’s a big reason we don’t typically offer move out cleans anymore. Between our recurring residential clients, commercial clients, and short term rentals, it’s hard to dedicate the amount of time these cleans truly deserve, but if ever we can’t take your move out clean, please know we will be happy to refer you to another local cleaner who can!

A question we get asked often is why cleaners prefer to clean unoccupied spaces.

The answer is simple: we can do our best work! It allows us to clean more efficiently and more thoroughly. For example, it’s difficult to thoroughly mop a kitchen or break room when people or pets are walking through, and it slows us down when we have to ask employees to move so we can vacuum under their desks.

It’s nothing personal! We love our clients, but we want to provide you with the best service possible, and an unoccupied space helps us do just that.

Of course, we understand that’s not always possible, and we’re always happy to work around your schedule as needed.

Let’s talk grout!!

Grout is naturally porous, which means it can absorb dirt, soap scum, grease, spills, and moisture over time. Unsealed grout can be a huge pain to keep clean! Without a good sealer, it can become stained, discolored, and even develop mold or mildew in damp areas like showers. Eventually this can cause cracking and damage.

Resealing your grout helps:
🧽 Keep it looking cleaner longer
💧 Protect against water damage
✨ Prevent stains from soaking in
🦠 Reduce mold and mildew growth
🏡 Extend the life of your tile and grout

Most grout should be resealed every 1–3 years, depending on the amount of foot traffic, moisture exposure, and the type of sealer used.

A little maintenance now can help keep your tile looking beautiful and prevent costly repairs down the road.

A Friendly Summer Reminder to Our Clients (and Fellow Cleaners)

With the heat we’ve been experiencing and will continue to experience this week, I’d like to ask for a small favor that makes a big difference.

If your home has air conditioning, please consider turning it on before your scheduled cleaning, preferably under 75 degrees. If you don’t have air conditioning, having multiple fans running and windows open (when weather allows) can help create airflow and make the environment safer to work in.

Professional cleaning is very different from cleaning your own home. We’re constantly vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing, bending, lifting, carrying supplies, climbing stairs, and moving from room to room with very few breaks. It’s physically demanding work, and extreme indoor heat can quickly lead to heat exhaustion.

⭐️⭐️To my fellow cleaners: your health matters. It’s okay to stop, reschedule, or say no if conditions become unsafe. No cleaning job is worth risking your well-being.
