GRIT has never been about being the fastest. It’s about refusing to stay where you started.

A year ago, TJ looked at this 5K and believed it wasn’t for him. He felt he was too out of shape, carrying too much weight, and dealing with drop foot. Most people would have accepted those excuses.

TJ didn’t.

He put in the work. He lost a substantial amount of weight. He strengthened his body. He showed up.

This year, he completed his very first 5K around the Statue of Liberty, cheering him on the way she does. He walked it at a brisk pace and before he even crossed the finish line, he had already set his next goal: “I’ll run it next year.”

That’s what grit looks like.
