Why Does my Boat Bottom get Dirty?
Even with the highest quality bottom paint Bottom Growth will occur. The nutrient rich waters produce an abundance of marine growth on boat hulls, docks, and on any submerged structure. Anti-fouling bottom paint dose slow this marine growth, However areas like running gear that do not have anti-fouling protection are subject to rapid growth of marine nutrient. Sunlight, Nutrient rich waters, and being constantly submerged is the perfect environment for rapid marine growth.
This marine growth can cause several factors. Such as:
* reduced performance
* reduced cruising speed
* reduced top speeds
* Higher fuel consumption due to increase drag
* Restricted and some times complete blockage of water flow to intakes that are associated with your; engine cooling, air conditioning, generator cooling, live well pumps etc.
* Excess growth can also result in annoying vibrations.
The most effective way to counteract these issues is to have your Hull bottom cleaned a minimum of every 4 weeks. We also offer biweekly and weekly cleaning of running gear and intakes for areas prone to heavier growth or for those captains that use there boat more often. That would clean Struts, shafts, rudders, propellers, thru hulls, knot meters, cutlass bearings, trim tabs, high speed scoops, slide out screens, rudder post, gudgeon, depth sounders, intakes, skegs, prop hubs, line Cutters, depending on your particular boat set up, Sail boat or power boat. Bi-weekly or weekly, and the Bottom Hull and anti-fouling areas from the Boot stripe to the base of the Keel Monthly to protect your anti-fouling paint and reduce ware.
