It was a crazy, rainy day of bottling but I’m so happy to have Jennifer Gray Wine Sauvignon Blanc and Grenache Blanc in bottle! There’s nothing like a bottling day: exhausting and exhilarating at once.

Immense gratitude to and the rest of the bottling crew for all of their hard work and encouragement along the way! 💗

Such a busy week!
In preparation for bottling this coming week, we did a TON of racking and also filtered some of the wines. All of this requires a lot of tank space and moving of wine from tank to tank (and cleaning tanks! And moving tanks and barrels around! And cleaning it all!). Meanwhile, we have constant tasting as we put it all together. This is such an exciting time in the cellar!

Grenache Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc gets bottled on TUESDAY! ☺️

This week at Story of Soil:
A little of this, a little of that!
Breaking down barrels into kegs for topping, topping, beautiful lees patterns, tasting through ‘24s and ‘25s, the start of disgorging pet Nat (get excited! I know Courtney and I are!), and a visit from our favorite neighbor, Luna 🐶

Yesterday was one of those days that reminds me exactly why I started this journey. 🐝

I had the honor of pouring my wines at the Women Winemakers & Culinarians of Santa Barbara Grand Tasting in Santa Ynez, surrounded by an incredible group of women who are growing, making, cooking, and sharing some of the most beautiful things our region has to offer.

It was a big, joyful day—talking with wine lovers and industry friends, pouring rosé and Grenache Blanc, hearing your stories, and tasting the results of so many women’s hard work and creativity.

There’s something powerful about a gathering of women supporting each other, lifting each other up, and celebrating the fruits of our labor. It felt a little like a hive—everyone bringing their own craft, energy, and passion to make something bigger together. 🐝

So grateful to have been part of it. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to taste and say hello. 💗

This last week we filtered (to clarify and stabilize the wines) including rosé of Pinot Noir—bottling is so soon! IT’S ALL HAPPENING!!! I am so excited to release this soon. It is very aromatic, a beautiful color—truly an expressive and gorgeous rosé. 🩷

It’s a new year and that means we are getting ready to bottle soon (next month).
This week was about tasting through lots of wines and beginning the process of racking lots of wines into tank in order to homogenize them and, for some of them, cold stabilize. It’s a fun but busy time—every container we go *into* needs cleaning, every container we go *out of* needs cleaning. I like these tasting and racking days! 😊 I find it brings a great sense of accomplishment to follow these wines from grape to barrel to bottle. 🌟

2025
As I look back at my photos from this year, what I see and feel in my heart is the absolute joy I feel when I am engaged in making wine. The work of my hands and my mouth as we sample the wine, of my body as I climb barrels, my mind as I search for the language to describe a flavor and texture—it is, for me, full engagement of body, mind, and heart. Who could ask for more in this life than to be challenged and excited about the work of one’s hands?
Please continue to come along for this ride with me as the first vintage of Jennifer Gray Wine (2025) will be releasing next year! 🥂
Best wishes to you for a happy and fulfilling year in 2026! 💕

Mid-December and we’ve been allll about tasting through the wines, taking samples of the ‘25s to check in on malic levels, and adding some protective sulfur where needed. My secret to a full morning of Syrah tasting? Saltine crackers to give your mouth a break. Go team!!! We are almost ready for a little winter break. Just have to top everything up and prep for some time away from the winery to celebrate the holidays with loved ones. I’m excited! 🎄 I hope your days have been marked with at least a smattering of hope and good cheer! 🥂
