Positive space refers to the main focus of an image (or in this case a logo), while negative space refers to what surrounds it. When used creatively and intelligently, positive and negative space together can tell a story using visual composition alone.

Full circle. Circa 2010 when the interest pivoted from “collecting & enjoying” to the thought of eventual “winemaking”. Nine years later it became a reality over a dinner discussion at The French Laundry.

Half way through my month in the Napa Valley for this 2019 harvest, I’m home for the weekend and able to collect my thoughts. First, making small batch, handcrafted, boutique wines is extremely hard, but rewarding work. It’s certainly a labor of love and I have even more respect for all those honing their craft. Second, there are so many factors that are out of one’s control. A great example of this were the winds this week, single digit humidity, and fire threat that caused PG&E to cut off power to the Valley on the second anniversary of the fires. Winemakers are working 100 hour weeks already during harvest and the last thing they needed this week was a loss of power. I’ve met many amazing and likeminded people this October and I’m already looking forward to getting back up there and at it tomorrow. Lastly, I’d like to thank my wonderful family for being so supportive and allowing me to pursue my dreams and passion. Being away from you is harder than any wine work…

Guess what? Today... we made some more wine. Unlike many, with the power having been turned off to the entire Napa Valley region, our crush pad and cellar is on a generator and it’s been biz as usual. Weird feeling throughout the valley though.
