Every business owner has that one customer they'll never forget.

Not because they spent the most money.

Not because they left a 5-star review.

Not because they referred a dozen friends.

Just because they were genuinely good people.

After washing homes across Omaha and the surrounding areas, I've met a lot of great homeowners.

Some leave drinks in a cooler for us on hot days.

Some tell us to take our time and do things right.

Some check in on how the business is doing months after the job is finished.

And a few have become friends long after the equipment was packed up and the work was done.

Running a small business can be stressful at times, but customers like that remind me why I started this journey in the first place.

There are still a lot of good people out there.

The Biggest Myth In Pressure Washing

One of the biggest myths I hear is:

"The higher the pressure, the better the cleaning."

In reality, that's usually how damage happens.

We've cleaned thousands of homes, and most of them are washed using surprisingly low pressure.

Why?

Because cleaning is done with the right detergents, not brute force.

Using excessive pressure can:

❌ Force water behind siding
❌ Damage painted surfaces
❌ Leave oxidation streaks
❌ Scar wood and composite decking
❌ Void manufacturer warranties

The goal isn't to blast dirt off.

The goal is to safely remove contaminants while protecting the surface underneath.

Confession...

I don't think enough people understand how much of life comes down to simply showing up.

Not luck.

Not having the perfect plan.

Not waiting for the stars to align.

Just showing up.

I've worked since I was 15 years old.

I've ridden a bike to work.

I've worked in the heat, the cold, the rain, and the mud.

I've worked jobs I hated.

I've worked for other people.

Now I work for myself.

And looking back, I can honestly say most of the opportunities I've had didn't come because I was the luckiest person in the room.

They came because I kept showing up when other people quit.

I showed up when business was slow.

I showed up when things weren't going my way.

I showed up when the easy thing would have been to throw in the towel and do something else.

The older I get, the more I realize success isn't usually one big decision.

It's thousands of small decisions made over and over again.

Getting up.

Going to work.

Answering the phone.

Doing what you said you were going to do.

Treating people right.

Keeping your word.

The problem is most people only see the results.

They don't see the years behind them.

So here's my confession...

People always say consistency beats talent.

I don't completely agree.

I think consistency without talent only gets you so far.

And talent without consistency usually gets wasted.

The real magic happens when you have both.

When you're good at what you do...

And you keep showing up long after everyone else quits.

That's where success starts to compound.

Not overnight.

Not in a month.

Not even in a year.

But over time.

Anybody else think it takes both?

Confession...

I used to think being busy meant I was being productive.

If I wasn't working, I felt guilty.

If I sat down for too long, I felt like I should be doing something.

If I wasn't answering calls, sending estimates, cleaning, fixing equipment, building something, or working on the business... I felt like I was falling behind.

The problem is that mindset never has a finish line.

There will always be another estimate to send.

Another customer to call back.

Another project to start.

Another goal to chase.

These days, I'm trying to get better at something I never thought I'd struggle with...

Being present.

Putting the phone down.

Enjoying dinner with my family without checking notifications.

Watching my kids grow up instead of catching it in pictures later.

Because the truth is, no customer has ever called me and said,

"Chuck, I wish you would've spent more time working."

But one day my family might wish I had spent more time with them.

I'm still figuring it out.

Still learning.

Still probably working more than I should.

But I'm getting better than I was a year ago.

And for now, that's enough.

Random thought...

Most people wash their vehicles more often than they wash their house.

Think about that for a second.

A lot of us will spend 20 minutes every weekend washing a car that's parked outside, gets dirty again in a few days, and loses value every year.

But the house?

The biggest investment most people will ever make.

That can go 5, 10, sometimes 15 years without being cleaned.

Then one day the siding starts looking faded.

The north side turns green.

Black streaks show up around the gutters.

Cobwebs start collecting under the eaves.

And everyone assumes the house is just getting old.

Most of the time it isn't.

It's just dirty.

A good cleaning can completely change how a home looks without spending thousands on paint, siding, or repairs.

It's funny how we notice every little speck of dirt on our vehicles, but walk past the same mildew and grime on our homes every day without seeing it.
