Heat Warning in effect!

Don't be fooled by the name, we are a full HVAC service as well, and ready to help keep your equipment fully functional for the summer. Even if it breaks down completely, we are happy to give a free replacement quote.

Stay safe out there and keep cool!

Tips for staying cool in the summer:

1. Master Your Thermostat and Airflow

-Target 78°F: The Department of Energy recommends setting your thermostat to 78°F when you are home and awake, and higher when you are away. Every degree you raise the temperature can save up to 3% on your cooling costs.

-Spin fans counter-clockwise: Ensure your ceiling fans are set to push air straight down. This creates a wind-chill effect on your skin, allowing you to raise the thermostat by about 4 degrees without actually feeling warmer.

-Turn off fans in empty rooms: Remember that fans cool people, not rooms. Running them in empty spaces is just burning electricity.

2. Block the Heat at the Source

-Close the blinds: Up to 76% of sunlight that falls on standard double-pane windows enters to become heat. Keep blinds, shades, or blackout curtains closed during the peak daylight hours, especially on south and west-facing windows.

-Ventilate at night: If the temperature drops significantly in your area after dusk, turn off the AC, open your windows, and set up box fans to pull the cool night air inside. Just remember to close everything up first thing in the morning to trap that cool air indoors.

3. Be Strategic with Appliances

-Appliances generate a massive amount of ambient heat. Shifting how and when you use them can take a significant load off your air conditioner.

+High-Heat Activity Energy-Saving & Cooler Alternative

+Baking in the oven Use a microwave, air fryer, slow cooker, or outdoor grill.

+Using incandescent bulbs Switch to LED bulbs, which emit up to 90% less heat.

+Daytime laundry/dishes Run the dishwasher and dryer at night during off-peak hours.

+Hot water cycles Wash clothes in cold water and take cooler, shorter showers.

4. Cool the Body, Not Just the House

-Target your pulse points: Apply a cold, damp cloth or ice pack to your wrists, neck, or temples to lower your internal body temperature quickly.

-Hydrate constantly: Drinking plenty of ice water is one of the most effective ways to regulate your body's temperature from the inside out.

-Choose breathable fabrics: Stick to loose-fitting cotton, linen, or moisture-wicking clothing that allows sweat to evaporate easily.

Rusty's Tip of the Week!

Is your sink or shower draining slower than usual? Don't ignore it!

A slow drain is often the first warning sign of a clog forming deeper in your plumbing system. Addressing it early can help prevent messy backups, unpleasant odors, and costly repairs later on.

If your drains are slowing down, let Duty Calls help get things flowing again with honest, upfront service you can trust.
