Here is part two on the 2015 Nissan Quest! We came out to do what should have been a simple serpentine belt and tensioner swap, unfortunately it turned into a little more than that. Our previous video showed the old tensioner pulley had failed and caused the belt to snap on this vehicle.

Now, right as we went to back out the tensioner bolts, we felt a lot of unusual resistance. Heat and penetrating oil were our first go-to, but it didn't help. Both bolts ended up snapping off, leaving us with two bolts needing to be extracted.

With such a tight fit, we decided to remove the plate/timing chain cover that the tensioner mounts to, which made the extraction much easier. From there, we clamped it in a vise, applied heat, and worked the broken bolts back and forth with vise grips until they eventually came free. Each surface was properly cleaned and fresh silicone was applied to the cover plate on reassembly.

This is normally a straightforward job, but living in the Rust Belt, you never know what surprise is waiting. Either way, the job got done right and the customer left happy!

Whatever surprises come our way, we'll be ready to handle them and get it done right the first time.

Checking out a 2015 Nissan Quest today. The customer reached out after the serpentine belt snapped and wanted us to find out why.

With a concern like this, we want to be sure the same thing doesn't happen again once the new belt goes on. So we checked that every pulley was spinning freely and smoothly. That's when we found the culprit: the automatic tensioner pulley had failed, with play side to side and a rough feel as it spun.

This is a very common failure, and it's why we recommend replacing the tensioner with every serpentine belt job. With this Quest at a little over 100k miles and more than 10 years old, which is the typical age and mileage for replacement, it was due for new components anyway.

A new tensioner and belt will get it back on the road, riding smoothly. Staying ahead of these maintenance items is the best way to avoid being left stranded! Thankfully this happened in the customer’s driveway but regardless of where you are, we’ll come to you and make sure it gets fixed right the first time!

Diagnosis today on this 2017 Subaru Outback. The customer came to us with a check engine light, and the code stored was P0971 (Pressure Control Solenoid C Control Circuit High).

There are a couple of things worth checking with a code like this, but we know what it typically points back to: the pressure control solenoid "C" inside the valve body. Over time, the internal electrical coil can degrade or burn out, causing resistance to drift out of spec like we saw.

Spec should read between 2-4 ohms. We tested and found 37 ohms, which is confirmation the part has failed.

Subaru's official fix is replacing the entire valve body, but in today's economy, that's just not realistic for a lot of people. So we're going to track down an aftermarket solenoid to fix the actual issue and save her as much money as possible.

Here’s the aftermath on this 2007 Chrysler Aspen. Today we tackled inner and outer tie rods, both front wheel bearings, and both front axles.

As we mentioned before, rust had eaten away the axle threads to the point where they were unusable. Once we had the new axles in hand, we got straight to work.

A good reminder for anyone doing this kind of job: take the time to clean the knuckles properly before installing new bearings. It helps everything seat flush and makes the whole install go a lot smoother.

On older vehicles like this one, heat, impact, and penetrating oil are your best friends. Stay persistent, and you’ll get through it.

No heat this morning? Don't wait for January.

When a heater blows cold, I start under the hood, not behind the dash. I check the coolant level, then feel both heater hoses at the firewall once the engine's warm. Both hot but still no heat? That points to the blend door. One hot, one cold? Usually a clogged heater core or air trapped in the system. Five minutes of testing keeps you from paying for parts you didn't need.

Good afternoon everybody sorry for not posting as much content in the past couple weeks…we have been slammed with work and projects…Fortunately today we were able to put some good time into the 2002 Chevy Silverado Z71 and install the new front bumper, rear bumper, headlights, taillights, and so much more 🔥This truck truly is coming together beautifully and I can’t wait to show you guys the finished result once it’s done!

You see that rotor screw? Ever wondered if you actually need it? Pro tip— YOU DO NOT 😂

The set screw was seized solid like they always are, so I hit it with the impact driver, and it cracked right loose. If that ever fails, a quick kiss of the torch gets it done. 🫡

Here’s the truth: once your wheel is torqued down, the lug nuts hold that rotor 100%. That little screw did its one job at the factory and has been freeloading ever since. So if yours strips out or goes missing, don’t sweat it — you DONT need it
