Varnished wood kitchen countertops resist stains very well, while oil-finished countertops are better with heat but bad with stains.
Limestone
Natural limestone counters are most desired for their beauty. Not mainly known for durability, they will nick, cut, scratch, and stain easily. Stains must be immediately blotted, and the counters need to be resealed periodically as well.
