Last call for deck staining this season.

If your deck is ready for a refresh before the weather turns, now is the time to get it on the schedule. Starting next month, new deck-staining projects will be booked for Spring 2027.

A proper deck-staining project starts with surface preparation so the wood is ready for the finish—not just covered up.

Reach out if you want to talk through your deck before the remaining seasonal availability is gone.

Last Call for Deck Staining This Season

August is moving fast, and September is realistically the last window for deck staining this season. Stain needs warm dry days and a stretch of dry weather after application to cure properly. Once October hits, overnight temps and morning dew start cutting into that, and the stain can go on — but it won't last the way it should.

August is almost full. If the deck has been on your list, now is the moment to book. We can still get you on the calendar for September.

DM or call to get on the books.

Why Paint Fails Early On North-Facing Walls

Most exterior paint failures start in the same places: shaded, slow-to-dry sections of siding. North-facing walls, sides tucked behind a garage, and sections under deep eaves stay damp longer after rain, dew, or humidity. That extra moisture changes what happens on the surface over time.

The first thing to look for is black or greenish staining on the siding. That is usually mold, mildew, or algae — living growth that feeds on the material and the old finish. Once it is established, it:

- Holds moisture against the substrate
- Slowly breaks down the paint film from underneath
- Bleeds back through new paint if it is not treated before the coat goes on

Pressure washing alone removes the visible stain but does not kill the growth. If new paint goes on over an active colony, the stain usually returns within months and the paint can lift with it.

A proper prep before exterior painting usually includes a treatment that kills the growth, a soft wash to remove residue, and enough dry time for the surface to fully dry before primer. It is the least glamorous part of the job, and the part that decides whether the paint lasts five years or one.

Save this for the next time the siding is being painted.

A Few Late Summer Slots Are Still Open For House Washing

We still have a few openings in the last two weeks of August if you want to get late summer exterior cleaning like house washing done before fall settles in.

Late summer is one of the best windows for a house wash in Michigan. Pollen, mildew, algae, and grime that built up through spring and early summer are still fresh enough to come off clean, and the siding, soffits, and trim look sharper going into fall.

If you've been meaning to get the exterior washed, there's still time. These August spots tend to fill up fast once school starts and the calendar tightens up.

DM us, comment below, or tap the link in bio to grab a slot before the end of August.

Older Homes Usually Need More Control Not More Aggression

Most paint problems start quietly. Faded sections, chalky residue, peeling edges, and exposed trim usually show up long before homeowners think of the word failure. Spotting those signs early gives you more time to clean, prep, and plan the right fix before weather and surface breakdown make the project larger.

If your home has older materials or trim details, the right method matters just as much as the result.

A Deck Usually Tells The Truth After A Proper Cleaning Not Before

Mold is more than a dark stain. It traps moisture against the surface, can break down finishes faster, and gives organic growth more time to spread into porous materials. Cleaning it early helps protect the material underneath instead of waiting until the damage is harder to reverse.

If your deck looks tired but you are not sure what it actually needs, start with the condition of the wood after a proper cleaning.

Michigan Smoke Is Rough Today, And Outdoor Work Safety Starts With Respecting The Air You Are Breathing

Canadian wildfire smoke has pushed Michigan into a statewide air quality alert for Friday, July 17. If you need to be outside today, cut down heavy exertion, take more breaks, move tasks indoors when possible, and use a well-fitted N95 if the work cannot wait.

Take precautions and be safe outside today if you have to keep working in it.
