At Otero Snake Safety, our mission is simple: safety, respect, and education.

We specialize in rattlesnake avoidance clinics for dogs, safe and humane rattlesnake removal, animal education and animal wrangling for film and community needs.

Happy Halloween and blessed Samhain. We spent three hours at the Alameda Park zoo today teaching people about snakes. It was cool to watch minds change as the kids came up and learned a little bit more about them. Come see us at the zoo again next month! Dates to be posted :)

Update, This is the snake with the damaged rattle :) after one good shed she is able to make noise again! I didn’t feel comfortable releasing her without her warning system so now we will be searching for the perfect area for release. Since it’s getting cold it important to find very deep cover for any that are released this time of year .

Join us on Halloween at the Alameda Park Zoo from 3-5 to face your fears or just cuddle a non-venomous snake :) costumes welcome! We will be inside the educational center teaching people about rattlesnakes and about our pet snakes!

Snakes are incredible when it comes to eating. The ligaments between the jawbones are very stretchy to accommodate very large prey items. Since they don’t have hands, they have to use their jaws to walk down the prey item’s body in order to swallow it. This video is sped up. It usually takes around 2 to 3 minutes for an animal to swallow a larger prey item.
