With rain in the forecast, we wanted to share this great, informational post from the CSIA!

Water is one of your chimney's biggest enemies!

When moisture gets into a chimney system, it can cause more damage than you might think. Over time, water intrusion can lead to deteriorating masonry, damaged chimney crowns, flue liner issues, rust, corrosion, and even damage inside your home.
The good news? Regular chimney inspections can help identify potential water-related issues before they become costly repairs.

Call Ash Busters Chimney Services today if you have noticed any water issues in/around your chimney! We have the knowledge and expertise to fix the issues and prevent any further damage. (785)-628-3378

National Fire Safety Week 2026

The holiday season is fast approaching, and the question becomes… "What am I going to do with the Christmas tree and all this wrapping paper and cardboard???"

The logical thing to do is recycle it, but that doesn’t always happen. Many times, the waste from the holidays, or even after the holidays ends up in the fireplace.

Burning trash in a fireplace creates a lot of smoke which can damage the environment. It also sends poisonous chemicals into the atmosphere, and possibly the home. These chemicals could be benzene, or dioxins depending on what is being burnt, which are toxic.

The other thing that can happen is when the garbage is burnt, it burns very hot and fast. This high heat occurrence could cause thermal shock to the flue, breaking the tiles, as well as damaging the appliance.

At the end of the day, the waste belongs in the trash, or recycling bin so make sure it gets there.

Chimney Safety Week 2026 : Tip #1 Schedule Your Sweep & Inspection Early *Today we are sharing a tip from the CSIA back in 2023 on the importance of scheduling your annual chimney maintenance.

As the weather changes and the temperatures drop you start to get the urge for that 1st fire of the season.

Before doing so, it is important to schedule a sweep and inspection from a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep®. They will determine if the fireplace or wood-burning appliances and chimney are suitable for continued use, or if there are repairs that need to be made.

This is very important to do before the burning season begins to protect you from any unexpected hazards that may have occurred in the prior year. If you wait too long to call they may already have a full schedule and might not be able to get you in unless there is a cancellation.

The best time to get on the schedule for your annual inspection next year is when they are done this year.

It's National Chimney Safety Week! We will be sharing tips all week long. First up is a great Fall Checklist from the CSIA.

Fall is a great time for homeowners to think about fireplace and chimney safety before cooler weather settles in.

Before using your fireplace regularly, schedule a chimney inspection with a CSIA Certified Chimney Sweep, check for visible masonry damage, make sure the chimney cap is in place and keep the fireplace area clear.

A little preparation now can help support a safer season ahead.
