Last week, five of our PUCA board members and the Executive Director drove down to Washington, DC to meet with lawmakers from PA. This visit was organized by our federal lobbyist, Eben Wyman of Wyman Associates.
We spent time with legislative directors to eight of our Pennsylvania Congressmen, both Republicans and Democrats to work on restoring federal funding for America's dilapidated water and sewer infrastructure, and to enact pipeline safety reauthorization legislation. PUCA asked the congressmen to support:
Legislative efforts to restore at least level funding for the EPA's State Revolving Fund (SRF) programs; and
Pipeline safety reauthorization legislation that includes language that would encourage state pipeline safety authorities to implement several leading practices to their programs, including requiring use of modern technologies to locate underground facilities, including geographic information systems (GIS).
Nothing in advocacy beats personal, one-on-one visits with lawmakers. We hope to make these visits twice annually to continue to fight for our members in Pennsylvania. Thank you to our board members who gave of their time and resources to attend this trip.
