Vacation Lodge Project Spotlight

Project:
Quesnel Lake Caribou Lodge in Quesnel Lake, Manitoba

Design Considerations:
The facility is located in an area with stringent environmental standards of Manitoba Conservation and needed to meet newer standards. With no access to a municipal sewer system and no power source available, the new treatment system required high efficiency with very low power consumption.

Stinson Beach Residential Project in Stinson Beach, CA

Lot size 50’ x 133’ on 15% slope
25’x25’ available for drain field
Available soils were less than 3 feet in depth
High groundwater table
9-foot retaining wall only 20 feet from the property line
Property not accessible for excavation equipment and installation required use of all hand labor

Residential Community Project Spotlight

Lake George Residential Community in Lake George, NY

Design Considerations:
Two of the four homes on a 100,000-square-foot island had a defective wastewater treatment system. The subsurface for these homes, and virtually all of the homes on the islands, is typically 18 inches before you reach solid rock thus providing poor retention for natural wastewater treatment before it enters the lake.

After meetings with the Lake George Water Association and code enforcement officers, it was determined that a peat fiber biofilter was the optimal solution to the problem. A seven-module Puraflo system was installed with a duplex pump system for the three-bedroom and four-bedroom homes.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Odor Control Project Spotlight

Rifle Range Road Wastewater Treatment Plant in Mount Pleasant, SC

Design Considerations:
A 3700CFM temporary odor control treatment was required during 8-12 weeks of downtime to be moved, upgraded, and made operational for use when process flow was routed to the new Influent Pump Station.
The treatment plant is located next to several neighborhoods and a school.

Wild Briar Ridge is a 70-lot residential development located in the shadow of The Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee.

The challenges presented by the site included shallow soil over bedrock and excessive slopes. Traditionally, each lot would be served by an individual onsite system, but the conditions made that possible for only a few of the building sites. The answer to the problem was an cluster with irrigation. The combined treatment design provided the site's challenging demands in a timely manner with the appropriate treatment requirements.

Residential Project Spotlight

Small footprint residential lot in Green County, MO

Design Considerations:
The homeowner was faced with a decision. Tear down the home or find a way to install a new onsite treatment system. A narrow 10-foot by 40-foot area behind the home was the only space available for a drain field. The proximity to the lake and the potential impact on water quality was also a concern that needed to be addressed in the design.

Lakefront home with 10x40ft workable area

The engineer proposed a peat fiber biofilter with pad dispersal to the Greene County Environmental Health Department. This would be the first Puraflo system ever installed in Greene County. Puraflo was able to provide the appropriate treatment for the home, saving it from demolition and protecting the lake's water quality. Puraflo provided a small footprint since the modules are directly over the drain field. Furthermore, the properties of the peat fiber provide high-level treatment with no bypass, which protects the lake water quality.

The designers were able to maximize their expansion efforts for the commercial facility because PuraSys SBR can dispatch effluent to a much smaller drain field than most other on-site treatment systems.

The 4,000 GPD system consists of one patented pre-aeration unit, timed duplex flow equalization pumps, two commercial 1.2 units, and one Puralinity pH biobuffer. The system provides top-level treatment while utilizing minimal space.
