What are the benefits of wall to wall carpeting for a home or business?

As scientists, physicians, and researchers began to gain a better understanding of the interaction between contaminants in the indoor environment and potentially harmful effects upon people living and working in those environments, there was a mad rush to draw absolute conclusions and make rash statements. One incorrect assumption that was sometimes made was that if carpet trapped allergens, contaiminants, and pollutants and held onto them, then in homes and buildings with immunocompromised individuals, hard surface floors would be a "safer and healthier" alternative than carpeting. This was particularly prevalent in the medical community dedicated to asthma research. One government in Europe went so far as to outlaw carpets in commercial public buildings. Subsequent research clearly demonstrated that this was an incorrect assumption. Indoor air quality went down, and links to health threats went up in buildings where this took place. Think about it for a moment. If indoor pollutants are present, a carpet will collect and trap them. A hard surface floor won't hold onto them and they will continually be "kicked" about and be floating around in the airspace, creating increased exposure to those occupying the environments. Stuides conducted in 1991 and 1994 be the Research Trangle Institute on behalf of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, and a susequent study in 2012 conducted on behalf of Stanley Steemer clearly demonstrate that hot water extraction carpet cleaning removes a high level of contaminants and allergens trapped in carpeting. In other words, cleaning out the filter on a regular basis helps maintain a healthier indoor environment.
Carpet acts as a filter in the indoor environment. It filters airborne soiling and pollutants from the airspace. That is a major advantage of carpeting. No other home or business furnishing does a better job of collecting and filtering soil and pollutants whereby they can be properly and completely removed and taken away by periodic professional hot water extraction cleaning. Carpet prevents the migration of pollutants and bio-contaminants throughout the indoor environment. All types of hard surface floors do not. Carpet is a positive indoor filter and collection center. When properly maintained by professional hot water extraction cleaning, it contributes to a healthier indoor environment.
