A screen on top of your chimney is great and is used to keep animals out and sparks in; however, if clogged with creosote, it will cause your chimney flue to become inoperable. If you have a clear view of your chimney, you might be able to see for yourself if the screen is open or starting to get plugged. If you have any questions, please call us at 616-453-8400.

Stockings above the fireplace is a tradition that started in 1832 when the poem "The Night Before Christmas" first mentioned it. Stockings can cause house fires if they are too close to the fireplace opening. Removing the stockings while the fireplace is being used is recommended and will help ensure the safety of using your fireplace this winter season.
