Let me give y’all a real life example of why I’m siding with Airbnb homeowners on these new policies.
I walked into an Airbnb rental today and immediately smelled something burning. I go into the bathroom and find the guest left a hair straightener plugged in, sitting on the homeowner’s bathroom counter, leaving BURN MARKS. This could’ve been so much worse. Had I not shown up when I did, we could be talking about an entire house catching fire instead of a damaged countertop.
And according to the new Airbnb policies, homeowners can’t just add extra fees at checkout for things like this.
So now the homeowner is left responsible for damage caused by someone who couldn’t be bothered to unplug a damn hair straightener? Something that could’ve been completely prevented?
Then let’s talk about the checkout chores. A house that normally takes me 3 hours MAX is now taking me 5-6 hours because guests aren’t doing the basic checkout tasks they agreed to do. That’s hours of extra labor that somebody has to pay for.
And before anybody comes at me, IT IS NOT ABOUT THE DAMN DISHES OR THE TRASH. It’s about the complete lack of respect some people have for other people’s property.
These aren’t just vacation rentals. They’re somebody’s investment, somebody’s livelihood, and in many cases, somebody’s HOME.
As a housekeeper, I see firsthand what gets left behind after guests check out. I see the damage, the extra work, and the disrespect that homeowners are left dealing with.
If you want to live like a damn slob, destroy things, and leave your mess for somebody else to deal with, go get a hotel room. But even then, have some damn respect for the people who have to clean up after you.
Airbnb is not a hotel, and a cleaning fee is not a license to trash somebody’s home.
I’m a housekeeper, and I stand with the homeowners on this one. 💯
