That’s why we encourage you to learn about pool safety this season.

Before you get in the water, be sure to follow the “ ABCs of Pool Safety”:

🅰️Adult Supervision: Assign an adult Water Watcher to keep their eyes on the water at all times. Limit the cycle to 15 minutes to ensure safety.

🅱️Barriers: Fences, self-closing and self-latching gates, barriers, pool motion sensors, windows, drain covers, and door alarms must be in place.

C- Classes: Parents and Caregivers should take CPR, First Aid, and swimming courses for both children and adults!

What's beneath the surface can change everything.
That lake, quarry, or pool that looks calm and inviting? What you can't see is often the real danger.

What's actually beneath the surface:
💙 Open water accounts for 79% of drownings — more than pools — largely because hazards there are invisible until it's too late.
🩵 Sudden drop-offs. A gentle slope near shore can turn into deep water within a few steps, with no warning.
🧡 Hidden currents. Rip currents and river currents often flow beneath a calm-looking surface — powerful, fast, and invisible from shore.
🌊 Cold water shock. Water just a few degrees colder than expected can trigger involuntary gasping and rapid breathing within seconds — even for strong swimmers.
🌊 Submerged debris. Rocks, logs, and murky visibility mean you often can't see what's below until you're already in it.

Why "it looked fine" isn't enough:
Water hides its dangers well. Calm on the surface doesn't mean safe underneath — and by the time you find out, it's often too late to react.

Before you get in:
✅ Check the depth yourself — every time, every spot
✅ Look for posted signs or hazard warnings
✅ Ask locally about currents, drop-offs, or recent changes
✅ Never assume "it was fine last time" still applies

Look before you leap. Every body of water has a story you can't see from the surface.
