The Best Shop Stool For Auto Detailing. I think I FINALLY found a rolling shop stool that’s actually going to last. I picked up the ICON 350 lb. Heavy Duty Mechanics Roller Seat from Harbor Freight, and overall… I’m seriously impressed. For $69.99, I think you’d be hard-pressed to find something with better build quality. It feels solid, the 350 lb. weight rating actually feels believable, the wheels roll incredibly smooth, and assembly was ridiculously easy. You’re basically installing the four casters and securing the seat, nothing complicated. As a DETAILER, though, I do have two complaints. First, I wish it sat a little lower to the ground. At 17-3/16", it’s a great height for mechanic work, but when you’re trying to work on lower rocker panels, wheels, tires, and lower sections of a vehicle, I’d personally like to be a few inches closer to the ground. Second, and this is probably my biggest complaint, I really wish at least ONE caster locked. These wheels roll almost TOO well. 😂 If you’re detailing in a driveway with any kind of incline, you better keep a foot on this thing or you might be watching your $70 stool head toward the street. That said, I also understand why ICON probably didn’t prioritize that. This is technically a mechanic’s roller seat, and most mechanics are going to be working on relatively flat shop floors. It wasn’t specifically designed around mobile detailers or driveway work. Everything else is fantastic. You’ve got a really comfortable padded leather seat, a convenient drawer underneath, additional divided storage for brushes, towels, tools or whatever you’re working with, plus a cup/bottle holder. Another big win for detailing is how easy the whole thing is to clean. Most of the structure is finished metal and plastic, so when it gets covered in dirt, chemicals, water, or your ass has been sweating on it for eight hours, you can wipe it down, rinse what needs rinsing, dry it off, and get back to work. And for my fellow big dudes wondering about that 350 lb. rating… Yeah. I trust it. 😂 I haven’t noticed any sketchy flexing, bending, wobbling, or that familiar feeling of, “this thing is eventually going to collapse underneath me.” For $69.99, this is an EASY recommendation. -350 lb. working capacity -Heavy-duty steel construction -Large, extremely smooth casters -Comfortable padded seat -Built-in drawer and storage -Cup/bottle holder -Very easy assembly -Easy to clean My only asks for a detailer-specific version? Make it a little lower and GIVE ME A LOCKING WHEEL. Do that, and I honestly don’t know what else I’d ask for. ICON 350 lb. Heavy Duty Mechanics Roller Seat Harbor Freight Item
