'People are always asking me if growing up in The Fifth Ward was rough. Well, it wasn't. I did it easily. Everybody's always calling it the ghetto, but to me it was home.

I was 13 years old when I quit school, and for a while I hung around the streets. I took an occasional odd job to earn enough money to get by. I was heading in the direction that would eventually find me in jail or dead.

My decision to be a bad guy was what caused my mother - bless her for all the suffering she endured for me - to have a nervous breakdown. I had about lost faith in everything before I was even started, I guess, but mom never lost faith in me.'
