➡️ Ingestion of formaldehyde can be fatal, and long-term exposure to low levels in the air or on the skin can cause asthma-like respiratory problems and skin irritation such as dermatitis and itching.
➡️ The chemical formaldehyde is used to preserve dead bodies. Formaldehyde changes the tissue on a molecular level so that the bacteria can't feed on the tissue.
➡️ Studies of workers exposed to high levels & long-term exposure of formaldehyde, such as industrial workers and embalmers, have found that formaldehyde causes myeloid leukemia and rare cancers, including cancers of the paranasal sinuses, nasal cavity, and nasopharynx, oropharyngeal cancer, and lung cancer in humans
➡️ If you have breathed or touched formaldehyde you may have symptoms such as • sore, itchy, or burning eyes, nose, or throat; • skin rash; or • breathing symptoms such as chest tightness, coughing, and shortness of breath.
➡️ Formaldehyde is used as a preservative in some medicines, cosmetics and other consumer products such as dishwashing liquids and fabric softeners;
➡️There are over 40 formaldehyde-releasers, and countless branded derivatives, but the most common are:
• Quaternium-15
• DMDM Hydantoin
• Ureas (imidazolidinyl, or diazolidinyl)
• Benzylhemiformal
➡️ Formaldehyde is known to be carcinogenic and a strong irritant. The EU lists formaldehyde as a category 1B carcinogen. This means that it is a substance presumed to have carcinogen potentials for humans
➡️It is a strong irritant, people with sensitive skin should avoid products that has a label saying contains formaldehyde or any of the releasers.
