Time for another episode of "What's on my porch?"

This is called an Eastern Lubber Grasshopper.

The eastern lubber is quite clumsy and slow in movement and mostly travels by walking and crawling feebly over the substrate. The โ€œlubberโ€ designation is interesting because it aptly describes this grasshopper. โ€œLubberโ€ is derived from an old English word โ€œlobreโ€ which means lazy or clumsy. It's time for the second edition of "What's that on my porch?"

This lovely little lady is a Red footed Cannibal fly. She is part of the robber fly family and preys on other flying insects like bees and they have even been known to take down humming birds! But don't worry! They are not harmful to humans or dogs! They will not bite unless mishandled or picked on. Overall, leave them alone and they will eat the more pesky bugs in your yard!

This pretty little guy is known as a Cottonwood Borer. A type of longhorn beetle, the eat tender or young tree roots and shoots. They will bite if provoked but are not dangerous to us bi-peds!
