Creosote buildup is measured in stages, and most homeowners have never heard of Stage 3. That's the one that looks like tar or hardened foam inside the flue, and it's the stage where a standard chimney sweep won't cut it anymore. Here in DFW, we see it a lot in older Lakewood and East Dallas homes where the fireplace gets used hard a few cold weeks a year and then sits untouched until the next season. If it's been a few years since anyone looked inside your flue, a Level 2 chimney inspection will tell you exactly what stage you're dealing with before you light that first fire. Give us a call at (214) 301-0414 and we'll take a look.

Replaced a rusted-out cap on a Frisco home last week. The old one had basically crumbled, and every rainstorm we get up here was sending water straight down the flue. New stainless steel cap, solid fit, problem solved.

If yours looks anything like what we pulled off this roof, it is worth getting it swapped before the next round of DFW thunderstorms rolls through. Book a cap install at https://premiumchimneys.com or give us a call at (214) 301-0414.

Pulled up to a home in Plano last week and the chimney crown was a mess, cracked clean through with weeds poking out of the gaps. Water had been sneaking into the firebox every time it rained. After a full crown rebuild and a fresh crown seal coat, that chimney is locked up tight heading into whatever storms North Texas decides to throw at us this spring. The homeowner had been putting it off for two seasons. Glad they finally made the call. If your crown looks anything like that "before" photo, get a quote started at https://premiumchimneys.com or give us a ring at (214) 301-0414.

Quick question for my Frisco and McKinney neighbors: when was the last time you had a chimney inspection done on your fireplace?

A lot of homes in this part of DFW were built in the 90s, and those chimneys are overdue for a good look. No pressure at all, just curious. If it has been a few years or you honestly cannot remember, swing by https://premiumchimneys.com and we can get you scheduled for a level 2 inspection before you light your first fire this season.

Most DFW homes were built in the 70s and 80s, and a lot of those original chimney crowns are cracked or completely gone by now. That matters because when spring storms roll through and soak the masonry, water gets in and starts breaking down the mortar from the inside out. You might not see any damage for a couple of seasons, and then one day the whole firebox face needs rebuilding. A crown repair now costs a fraction of that. If your home is in that era, swing by premiumchimneys.com and book a chimney inspection before next winter sneaks up on you.

Pulled up to a home in Frisco last week and found the crown had been cracked and patching for years. The homeowner had no idea water was sneaking in every time it rained. We sealed it up right with a proper crown repair and it looks solid now.

If you have got an older place and haven't had anyone look at the top of your chimney in a while, give us a call at (214) 301-0414 and we'll tell you exactly what you're dealing with.

Chimney repair is one of those things that's easy to put off until it turns into a much bigger job. If you're seeing cracks in the mortar, spalling bricks, or white staining on the outside of your chimney, that's your chimney telling you it needs attention. Here in DFW, our clay soil shifts constantly and we get enough freeze and thaw cycles to work those cracks open fast. Catching it early keeps a small repair from becoming a full rebuild. Take a look at what we do at https://premiumchimneys.com and reach out if something looks off at your place.

North Texas winters can be short, but a dirty or blocked chimney makes even a quick cold snap miserable. Before you light that first fire of the season, take a few minutes to check that your damper opens smoothly and that you do not see any debris or nesting material in the firebox. If anything looks off, we are happy to take a look. Book a quick inspection at https://premiumchimneys.com and we will get you sorted out before the temperatures really drop.

One question we hear a lot: "How do I know if my chimney needs repairs?" Honestly, the biggest signs are white staining on the outside bricks, chunks of mortar in the firebox, or a damper that sticks or won't seal all the way. If you're seeing any of that, it's worth getting eyes on it before you light your first fire this fall. Visit us at https://premiumchimneys.com to learn more or book an inspection.
