We have been in the flood restoration business for 30 years. With the upcoming freezing weather, here are our recommendations.
PLEASE, PLEASE everyone leave your faucets running that are on exterior walls, both hot & cold. This means not a small trickle but a decent flow. Open those cabinet doors where your pipes are on exterior walls so that the heat can get inside there to keep those pipes warm. Open all interior doors to keep air circulating, including shower doors & curtains.
Make sure there are no water hoses connected outside. You can put insulators on those outside pipes, this is all you can do for those. You will not know that you have a freeze break until you go to use your outside water hose once the weather is warmer.
If your water freezes and stops flowing, get your blow dryer out and heat those pipes up to hopefully get that water moving again. You can also put a heater in front of those open cabinet doors to keep those pipes warm.
Yes, your water bill will be a little higher, but the flooding of your home and the inconvenience of your house flooding is SO much more expensive.
We will be inundated with floods this coming week and would LOVE if we do NOT receive one single phone call ESPECIALLY from our friends and family.
Sincerely,
