Let’s talk ice dams/heat loss. 🥶👋💰

Full transparency, ice dams are 100% caused by inadequate insulation/poor ventilation which results in heat loss from your home.

You can have clogged gutters, clean gutters, or no gutters at all, and you shouldn’t have any ice dams unless you have the heat loss.

In the photo, you’ll see a south facing roof which gets sun all day and not a single icicle hanging off of the eaves. The only icicle you will see is the one forming by where the furnace exhaust discharges due to the heat.

Heat wire can help the severity of ice dams as well, but the root cause is poor ventilation/inadequate insulation in your attic.

Roof raking also won’t stop the ice dams, but it can help with the severity of the damage caused by the heat loss.

Also, it is very important to be careful to not cause damage to the roof while shoveling/raking it off.

I have been getting quite a few calls regarding ice damming. I am offering attic inspections to determine repairs needed to get proper ventilation and avoid this issue in the future. Not to mention, you will also save money on cooling costs in the summer.

After the inspection, if you decide to go forward with repairs, the inspection fee will be credited towards that repair price.
