All of these 90+-degree days don't make it easy to keep it smelling fresh in the kitchen. Another easy way to combat sneaky odors is to keep your trash can and it's location sanitized and clean. Here are a few tips from a pro ๐:
- Thoroughly disinfect your full can every other week, especially handles and rims, and don't forget to wipe down the surfaces of the cabinet/corner where it lives. Use a 5% bleach dilution, or a specialized sanitizer--use specific cleaners for stainless or wood exteriors to prevent discoloration or damage ๐ซง
- Sprinkle baking soda in the bottom of the can to help absorb odors. Drops of essential oils can optionally be added for extra pleasantness ๐
- Save and place silica packets or small sachets of rice in the bottom of the can if you deal with moisture/mold issues ๐ง
- Change trash out weekly OR as soon as it gets 90% full OR as soon as it starts to smell to avoid germ-spreading trash spillover and odors permeating the can ๐
