I often get asked about bedding. Most hosts start out with the typical "everything must be white" bedding. Although this does look clean, crisp and amazing in the photos, its just not a practical choice. Usually they choose white because it looks nice and "i just figured we can bleach them". Unfortunately not everything does bleach out and your cleaners only have so much time during a turn to focus on laundry. They do not have time to let items sit and soak for an hour in order to deal with stains. Usually, we get a quick few minutes to stain treat then in the washer they go. When your "white canvas" comes out from the dryer and placed across the bed, every tiny spot and even the lightest discoloration is immediately draws your eye and this linen is now trashed regardless of how tiny or light a spot is. Its unussable.
Now take a sheet or comforter that is darker and also has a pattern to it. If you do have a tiny spot or a stain that didnt lift 100% you do not even see it. Due to color pattern choice, you just saved a $20 sheet set, a $50 comforter, or a $30 duvet replacement. This same concept goes for towels and bathmats. Per my experience, my white linen hosts replace items 3 times more often than my gray and patterned hosts.
Thinking about the small spot / light discoloration idea look at the pics below and you can see how one option gives you no leeway or and the other option which allows for a few guest mishaps that are completely undetected.
